Varian HyperSight

As the first community provider in the nation with Varian HyperSight technology, Tanner Cancer Care leads in precision radiation therapy for cancer.

Outside of Tanner, Varian HyperSight is available at only a few academic research facilities outside the Southeast.

Varian HyperSight: precision radiation therapy

Varian HyperSight is cutting-edge technology that enables us to deliver more precise and targeted radiation therapy for cancer than ever before. This advanced system allows our cancer specialists to:

  • Accurately locate and track tumors in real time.
  • Help minimize radiation exposure to healthy tissue.
  • Visualize anatomy more clearly so clinicians can deliver higher, more effective doses of radiation therapy to destroy cancer.
  • Potentially reduce treatment time, improving patient comfort and reducing anxiety.
  • More quickly ensure the effectiveness of treatments. HyperSight images are so precise they can be used for re-planning, possibly reducing the need for re-simulation of treatments.

Clearer. Faster. Better.

HyperSight by Varian provides clearer, more detailed images in a fraction of the time of traditional on-board linear accelerator imaging systems. To the left is an image of a pancreas undergoing cancer treatment with less-clear imaging that took about a minute to process; to the right, the same pancreas with clearer imaging that took about six seconds to process.

See the difference for yourself

Our team of board-certified radiation oncologists — featuring Anil Dhople, MD, and Jason Sanders, MD, with Tanner Radiation Oncology and the Roy Richards, Sr. Cancer Center —explain how the Varian TrueBeam with HyperSight makes a difference in patient care.

The value of accuracy in radiotherapy

Radiation therapy is delivered on a device called a linear accelerator. Targeted radiation destroys cancer cells in their very DNA.

The goal of radiation treatment is to deliver as strong and precise a dose of radiation to cancer cells as possible while not exposing healthy tissue to radiation. Over time, these devices have advanced to deliver larger, more precise doses of radiation.

Linear accelerators feature on-board CT imaging features that allow radiation oncologists to do some medical imaging during treatments, ensuring the radiation is hitting its mark. But this imaging has mostly been grainy, slow and hard to interpret.

Clarity beyond clear

HyperSight from Varian delivers an unprecedented level of clarity, providing radiation oncologists with almost clinical-level diagnostic images in seconds instead of minutes. Radiation oncologists can be more sure of their targeting and see if the cancer is responding to treatment — during treatment — and make changes if necessary.

Tanner Cancer Care is the first community cancer treatment provider in the nation to bring this innovation to their patients.
