Adult volunteer opportunities 

If you’re 18 or older and interested in becoming a hospital volunteer, review the application details below:

  • Commit to four hours per week for at least six months. (Short-term opportunities are outlined below.)
  • Adhere to CDC guidelines for hospital volunteers, including having an immunization record (if born after 1957), obtaining an annual flu shot and completing an annual TB test.
  • Provide personal references and consent to a background check.

High school student volunteer opportunities

The Tanner Teen Institute offers a summer program for future healthcare leaders, running from June 1 to August 1 each year.

Program qualifications include:

  • Being 15-18 years old.
  • Maintaining a 3.0 (B) GPA.
  • Submitting a COMPLETED application with parental/guardian signature by the deadline.
  • Providing two recommendation letters, one from a school counselor with GPA documentation and no disciplinary actions within the last year.
  • Availability for 6 weeks in summer, committing at least 8 hours weekly.
  • Submitting immunization records, including COVID-19 vaccination, and completing a TB test.
  • Attending Orientation with a parent.
  • Participating in weekly leadership and healthcare exploration classes during the summer.

This is both a volunteer and leadership development program. No healthcare pathway is required, just an interest in healthcare. Opportunities to continue volunteering during the school year may be available post-summer.
