What is the difference between home health care and in-home care?

Tanner Home Health serves Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Haralson, Heard and Paulding counties. Services are customized to meet your needs and support safe, effective care at home. Both home health care and in-home care are provided in the comfort of a patient’s home, but they serve different purposes:

  • Home health care – Delivered by licensed health care professionals, this service focuses on medical care, including wound care, physical therapy, medication management and health monitoring. It’s typically short-term and aimed at helping patients recover or manage a medical condition.
  • In-home care (personal or custodial care) – Provides assistance with daily activities, such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation and light housekeeping. It supports long-term independence rather than medical treatment.

Some services may overlap depending on patient needs.

Eligibility: making home health care accessible

We strive to make home health services available to every member of our community. You may qualify if you are enrolled in Medicare or Medicaid. Our team can also verify benefits with your current insurance plan or health maintenance organization (HMO). Financial assistance may be available to help ensure you can access the care you need.

You may qualify for home health care if you:

  • Have difficulty leaving home without considerable assistance
  • Require skilled care from a nurse, physical therapist or speech therapist
  • Are under the care of a physician
