UWG Nursing Preceptorship

Gain Real-World Experience to Advance Your Nursing Career Through Tanner Health’s Get Healthy, Live Well initiative, senior nursing students have the opportunity to apply classroom learning in real-world settings. The UWG Nursing Preceptorship program offers valuable hands-on experience in community health, preparing students for successful nursing careers.

Hands-On Health Education In partnership with the University of West Georgia’s Tanner Health School of Nursing, this preceptorship helps students expand their knowledge and develop practical skills through active participation in community health initiatives. Preceptors engage in programs that promote better nutrition, increase physical activity, and support chronic disease prevention and management.

Putting Skills into Action Since 2016, more than 1,000 senior nursing students have completed the preceptorship program. After orientation, preceptors contribute to a variety of community health and wellness efforts, including:

  • Diabetes Prevention Programs
  • Food As Medicine Programs
  • Community Health Education Events
  • Tobacco Cessation Programs
  • Get Healthy Kids Initiatives
