How Do You Judge Quality?

The quality of care you receive and the doctors you choose have a direct impact on your health. At Tanner Health, we measure hospital quality by how well we compare to national standards and how well we meet your expectations.

Hospital quality is evaluated using proven tools and indicators. The seven basic tools of quality in hospitals include flowcharts, check sheets, cause-and-effect diagrams, histograms, Pareto charts, scatter diagrams and control charts. These tools support healthcare quality improvement by helping teams identify issues, track performance and make meaningful changes.

Key indicators of hospital quality include patient safety, clinical outcomes, care coordination, efficiency and patient experience. These align with the five P’s in hospitals: people, processes, policies, performance and patient experience, and guide how care is delivered and improved. At Tanner Health, these principles shape our commitment to evidence-based medicine, which uses the best available research to guide safe and effective care.

Quality care is also measured through structured feedback. Patient satisfaction surveys help us understand what we’re doing well and where we can do better, while ongoing review supports continuous healthcare quality improvement. Together, these efforts help ensure consistent hospital quality across our system.

We also focus on the five D’s of healthcare quality: delivering the right care, at the right time, in the right place, for the right patient, with the right outcome. These priorities, combined with evidence-based medicine and patient satisfaction surveys, help Tanner Health continuously improve care and strengthen trust in the communities we serve.
